Professional Experience

My working life has been an enriching and inspiring journey through several countries and meeting a lot of remarkable people across international and ethnic boundaries.

Having completed my training in Zimbabwe I gained extensive experience in managing acute Orthopaedic and Trauma patients at the prestigious King Fahd Hospital in Saudi Arabia, a Level 1 Trauma Centre.

I became the Chief Resident of the Department and worked there for six years.

Back in Zimbabwe I completed my Membership of the College of Primary Care Physicians and commenced work as the Deputy Head of the Accident and Emergency Department and finally becoming the Head of the Department in 1995.

I continued at this position for six years when I was offered an Acting Consultant job at the A&E Department at the University Hospital in Muscat, Oman, a centre of excellence in the Gulf region. Apart from clinical work I was involved in teaching both at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.

During this time I completed a Master’s degree in Disaster Medicine and was awarded the degree of European Master in Disaster Medicine by the University of Brussels, Belgium.

I have attended a number of International Emergency,Disaster Medicine and Family Medicine Conferences as participant, invited speaker, moderator and chair and organised the First International Emergency and Disaster Medicine Conference in Muscat,Oman.

I was also part of the task force assigned to establish a Poisons Control Centre in Oman and was the author of several chapters of the Poisons Treatment Manual.

I was an instructor of life support courses at the medical university and was appointed Director of Life Support Courses which included ACLS,ATLS,APLS and Advanced Airway Course.

From Oman we migrated to Canada and planned to settle down there but the warm hospitality and welcoming weather beckoned us and we decided to move to country Australia. This gave me the opportunity to use my Emergency Medicine skills alongside General Medicine. After my arrival I completed my Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

In 2018 I was appointed Senior Lecturer-Teaching Specialist at The College of Medicine at Flinders University. I find teaching an inspiring and fulfilling experience.

I am also an accredited GP Registrar supervisor and was also an accredited John Flynn student mentor for ACRRM.

Prior to setting up Welland Medical Centre I was Medical Director of Priority Care Medical at Woodville Park.
